Creating A Bespoke Engagement Ring

Pulling into Paddington to meet my client to discuss plans for a proposal over a bottle of red wine; I had no idea exactly what Alex had envisioned for her mum's engagement ring from her stepfather.

It is very rare to have the pleasure of meeting multiple family members when we are preparing a surprise for their loved one and it was so lovely to pick Alex's brain all about her mum's style and her dreams for her engagement ring.

As we settled in our first glass of red; we spent some time going through ideas Alex & Dan had found online and on Pinterest. We were very clear that the ring had to be 18ct Yellow Gold and that we both wanted a quirky twist the ring to give mum something a little more unique than you see on your local high street every day.

After finishing off our bottle of wine; I headed back to the studio to begin putting together some ideas for Alex & Dan to view.

We decided on an Oval Brilliant Cut Diamond, in an 18ct Yellow Gold Rubover Setting with parallel split band. So I began my work by sourcing the most stunning diamond; searching through diamonds, I chose a stone that reflected the light beautifully and provided ample sparkle along with offering a high-quality colour and clarity; of course, certified by the Gemmological Institute of America.

Once we had decided on our diamond; it was time for me to create 3D drawings to send to Alex & Dan to ensure we both loved our final choice. A 3D drawing is the best way to ensure your centre diamond fits perfectly in the hand-finished ring. Every ring at Holly Robinson Jewellery is made around your chosen diamond or gemstone to ensure both are a snug fit.

When I don't have a sample available to clients to try on beforehand in some cases I will create a resin model of their new designs. This way they can try on their bespoke ring; get a feel of the dimensions and really start imagining wearing it every day. After finishing the 3D drawings I sent Alex her own resin model of her mum's new engagement ring.

Once both Dan & Alex both approved their GIA certified diamond, 3D drawings & resin model it was time for me to create the final ring! I am so over the moon with the finish of this elegant design - a substantial yet delicate finish with enough sparkle to share with the whole family!

Final Words from Alex & Dan:

Thank you so much for everything Holly, there is no other person in the world we would have trusted this ring with and it is so beautiful... we are just sat looking at it now! We are so grateful for all your help!
